Semi-fowler beds are operated using cranks or motors and utilize either simultaneous, central, or individual braking systems. These fowler beds are equipped with easy lifting or collapsible side rails to ensure patient safety. ABS or stainless steel are used for the head and foot panels. The angle of the bed is between 30 degrees and 45 degrees. The legs of the patient may be straight or bent. Semi-Fowler beds are usually used when the patient faces difficulty breathing or is undergoing breathing treatments and when drainage occurs after an abdominoplasty. In the semi-Fowler's position, the diaphragm moves downward, the work of breathing relatively decreases, lung volume and ventilation increase, and lung dilatation is promoted. These changes majorly help in improving oxygenation and increasing oxygen saturation.
